Spring Garden

We got our spring garden in finally. The boys are always so helpful when it comes to planting the garden, often a little too helpful ;) They did pretty good at first. but then it quickly lead to being silly and wanting to make mud balls instead of helping. Gibs was a good cheerleader and cheered us on with lots of smiles and arm flapping.

Everything seems to be growing pretty good so far. The carrots are starting to come in and the lettuce is growing taller. This is my first time growing lettuce and I'm pretty excited about it! A fresh garden salad?! Doesn't that sound so delicious and refreshing?! Yum.

Nixon wanted to move his flower he has been growing in a cup from Primary into our garden. He picked out the "perfect spot" as he called it and has been taking very good care of it since. He cracks me up with how precise he his. I just love my three little ones:)

Keeping up on the "Weeding & Watering"

Remember that post I did a couple weeks ago saying I wasn't really going to blog that much anymore? It's like ever since I said that I have had this desire to blog more and  have somehow been finding the time to do so. It's funny what happens when you throw something out into the universe. So be careful;)

Well It's already Fall! And I'm pretty happy about it.
This morning, Babe and I took the kiddies to Star Nursery to pick out some plants for our fall garden.
They are such good little helpers:) Until they start running around the store and throwing plants into the wagon that we weren't planning on buying.. that's when we know it's time to make our purchase and get the heck out of there! We have learned to be a lot faster shoppers since we had kids.

I always get so excited to plant our new mini garden.
I love change, the beginning of something new, new seasons, starting new projects.. you get the point.
The beginning or starting of something is always so fun and exciting.
It's sticking to it when the "fun" part wears off that's so hard. Sticking to the everyday tasks of  "weeding & watering" that can get so tedious at times.

It's so easy to say "eh I did it yesterday.. it should be fine if I skip today's watering" then it keeps getting that much easier to skip out on. I tend to fall in the trap of "laziness" quite often. It's hard to do something when it's just not FUN anymore. It's something that I'm working on.

I didn't really intend this post to be a life lesson, but that's kind of what it turned into! I guess I'm putting it out into the universe in hopes I will get better at keeping up on the tedious things, the not so "fun" things like "weeding & watering" or in other terms, house work, laundry, dishes..etc.
Which I should probably go do when I get done with this post! Blah.
Here's to weeding & watering the garden.

Gardening

I have to say, I am really starting to enjoy this gardening business.
It's been fun to see our mini garden grow.

Nixon helped plant the carrots and was so excited to see the plants finally growing.
He dumped quite a bit in one spot that I'm going to have to thin out, but other than that, they are growing very nicely. ;)

Nix helps me water the garden every morning when we get up.
It's been fun to teach him where our fruits and veggies really come from.
He was surprised to learn that. Me- "No they don't just magically appear in the grocery store. They grow on a farm or in gardens." Nixon- "Oh like where the cows live?!"
Me- "Yes exactly."

Nix thought it would be a good idea to stick a flower in my ear instead of behind my ear. Then busting up laughing because I jumped when it went inside my ear! Haha I love my little Nixon buddy.

I found this article very helpful and thought I'd share it.

Mini Garden

Last week, the boys and I went to Star Nursery to pick out plants for our Mini Garden. I let Nixon pick some of the plants out. He chose green peppers and I chose strawberries, roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and carrots.

My Grandma Sorensen was a big time gardener. She always had a least 5 gardens going at once. I'm thinking I got this gardening niche from her, maybe?

I remember her letting us go pick strawberries from her strawberry patch and showing us how to tell when the carrots were ready to be pulled.
I also remember helping her break the green beans in the front room.

She was one of the hardest working women I have ever know and not to mention one of the best cooks there ever was.

When she wasn't in the garden, she was in the kitchen cooking and baking. I can still smell her freshly baked bread and canned peaches. mmm mmm.

I don't think I will ever be as great as a Women as she was, but I sure will try to be the best that I can be and try to live up to her great example.

Thanks Grandma for your love, inspiration and example.
Love and miss you.
